you have got to pull it really tight so it hurts your head. that way if it loosens a bit you wont end up with bumps. pain is beauty!!

I'd say, start off w/very little hair when you start the braid. Whether your hair is thick or fine textured, the more hair you start with, the "bumpier" it will be. (Mine is fine and is prone to "hair bubbles", as I call them.) So, try to start small...just small amts of hair from no lower than your temples to start, then build up VERY gradually. Hope that helps!
