My hair turns as dry as straw whenever I wash it! How do I stop this??

I get a curly perm every 3 months or so and my hair is so soft, light and silky when I leave the salon, but as soon as I wash my hair about a week later, it gets dry and no matter how much product I put in, it never really goes back to that same softness!

My hair gets so dry I only wash it once a week and my usual routine consists of:

1. Wash with a moisturizing shampoo (I use Dark %26amp; Lovely 3-in-1 conditioning shampoo).

2. Deep condition (Dark %26amp; Lovely ultra cholesterol). I put a heating cap on my hair and leave on for about an hour.

3. Wash off conditioner with lukewarm water and squeeze out excess water

4. Apply John Frieda Frizz-Ease serum to wet hair and leave to dry

Then, as it dries, it turns real frizzy and looks like an afro!! I've been so frustrated in the past that I've braided my hair and gotten a weave - anything to hide my own hair and sweep my problems under the rug, so to speak, but I really want to be able to wear my own hair!!

Any ideas would be appreciated!

You wash you hair, you are stripping oil out of your hair. This causes the hair to become dry.

Don't wash your hair everyday.

use a leave in conditoner. it really works. i can't really deside witch one works better but just get any kind that also has a shampoo products.

The John Frieda stuff makes my hair dry...even though it's supposed to be really good for it...so you might wanna stop using that. Experiment with some other hair serums...the vive stuff in the orange bottle is pretty good. Also, they make a cholesterol with olive oil in it now which is amaaazing! I'm not sure what the name brand is though, but it's green and should be right beside the regular cholesterol. Try it for sure it's so much better than regular cholesterol. You might also want to try a different shampoo...mane and tail is definitely the best. It makes my hair shiny and strong. You can get it at Sally beauty supply if you cant find it at like walmart or something.

first off..calm down!! this will be ok..and hugsss.

now when was the last time ya got a trim??? maybe its time ..to cut off all the dead ends.. and also a perm dries and damages hair very badly... now as far as a hot oil treatment.. i use plain crisco.. yeppers i said CRISCO!! ya dont have to have all that fancy expensive stuff which apparently isnt working..as you said here... i wet my hair in warm water and apply a thin coat of crisco oil or lard... make sure itsevenly distributed through your hair.. wrap a hot towel or warm.. around your head and leave on for like 30 mins or until the towel is cool.... then i use dawn dishsoap..a few drops is all ..to wash the first time then i rewash with a conditioning shampoo..clled suave!! lol.. and then i condition my hair and let it stand on hair while you shower.. when your finished showering or bathing..then rinse your conditioner out..

dawn dishsoap is harsh on your hair..but.. it gets out the excess oil from crisco..

i use this once a month.. but you need to get your hair trimmed... at least every month until the dead ends and burnt ends are outta there...when rinsing my hair i use as cool of water as i can.. now this should work for you...

another thing also?? id call the salon where ya get your perm and ask what products they use to make your hair so soft after the perm.... good luck and hugsss...

Switch to Garnier Fructis moisturizing shampoo and conditioner. Also get some coconut oil. (you can find it at CVS)

First, shampoo your hair and rinse it out.

Apply the conditioner and rinse it out.

Get out of the shower and squeeze out the excess water in your hair. Apply a couple tablespoons of the oil and rub it in real good. Put on a shower cap but this time leave it in ALL NIGHT.

In the morning, rinse out your hair and apply some Garnier Fructis Sleek %26amp; Shine Leave-In Conditioner AND Garnier Fructis Sleek %26amp; Shine Weightless Serum.

When your hair is dry, apply more serum and leave-in conditioner.

this may sound odd, but with curly hair you should only condition it; not shampoo it. shampoos (even moisturizing shampoos) have stuff in them that clean your hair... but at the same time they dry your hair out. try 2 different conditioners... your hair will still be just as clean.

Sounds like you are blowing up the cuticle with harsh shampoos. Think of each single hair strand as a shingled roof. When the shingles are all neatly laying down your hair feels soft, sleek and looks shiny. But when those shingles are pushed up and in disorder your hair feels dry and looks frizzy and poofy. You need a acid shampoo and conditioner. I know that sounds bad but acid closes the cuticle (that's why it feels so good when you leave the salon) and alkaline shampoos open the cuticle. A good example of a acid shampoo is Nexxus Assure and Ensure Conditioner. They will close the shaft and help with the frizzies. Follow up with a silicone glosser which can usually be found in the ethnic hair care section of your drug store. Shampoos to avoid are Pert, Prell, cheap shampoos. They are alkaline based while they do really get the hair clean they strip away essential oils and blow up the cuticle causing damage.

tresemme moisture rich,and i want to swicth over and use redken smooth down shampoo and the all soft conditniter and 2-in1 or 3 n one products are bad for the hair my hair was like taht like come from the salon nice n soft do my hair at home dry and not soft but it was what i was using!!! and i lvoe when i do my hair now i use tresemme heat tamer as well when im using a flat iron and a blow dry you should looj into slaon stuff for your hair

i used to do the same thing to my hair perm it a lot. i heard my hairstylist to another woman about perming hair so much that it will dry your hair out a lot! so i stopped perming my hair. if you continue to perm you're hair, then i would suggest you should wash your hair every other day instead of once a week because your hair still needs moisture. i would try aussie insurance or aussie moist shampoo. for a conditioner i used 3 minute miracle and my hair started to even get some shine. hope this helps.

try a product called silk therapy, espacially their conditioning syrim. also you might want to try putting some product in when it is wet, such as gel or mousse, this will help with the friz and the fro. but one of the best things is just to find a great leave in conditioner (like the silk). you might have to shop around to find something that really works for you. everyone's hair is different so you are just gonna have to experiment. I reccoment mark antoneys strictly curls, curl defining lotion. I basically have black lady hair, but i am very white so i have been looking for something like this a long time. Good luck!!

Think about what a perm does to your hair.

It removes moisture and breaks and damages it.

Now think about using a deep conditioner on your hair .

What is that conditioner trying to do?

Repair damage right.

So, by putting conditioner on your hair you are repairing your damaged permed hair which first makes the perm start to relax. Now your hair is straighter because of the conditioner. So it will feel dryer due to the stripping action of the shampoos and the conditioners. Its catch 22.

My advice is to wash hair twice a week with a mild shampoo.
